Secure Report Sharing Made Easy
I worked with an elite cyber security company to design a secure file sharing application. The company provides top-notch cyber security services to businesses and organizations around the world.
The problem the company faced was that their clients were using insecure methods to share sensitive information, such as email or consumer file-sharing services. This posed a significant security risk, as sensitive information could be intercepted by cybercriminals or other unauthorized individuals.
To understand the problem and its context, I conducted user interviews with the company's clients and analyzed their current file-sharing practices. I also researched industry standards for secure file sharing and reviewed existing file-sharing solutions on the market. This research helped me identify the key features and functionalities that the secure file sharing application needed to provide.
Persona 1: Busy Consultant
The Busy Consultant is a male or female between the ages of 35 and 50 who works in the consulting industry. They have a busy schedule and are always on-the-go, requiring a fast and easy way to securely share confidential reports with their clients. Their main goal is to quickly and efficiently share reports while ensuring their security. However, they face a pain point in their difficulty in finding a platform that is both user-friendly and secure. Additionally, they desire the ability to customize access permissions to individual reports and manage multiple clients in one place.
Persona 2: Small Business Owner
The Small Business Owner is a male or female between the ages of 25 and 45 who owns a small business. They have limited resources and require an affordable and efficient way to share reports with their team and clients. Their main goal is to securely share reports while keeping costs low. However, they face a pain point in their difficulty in finding a platform that is both affordable and user-friendly. Additionally, they desire the ability to collaborate with their team and track report access.
Persona 3: Large Corporation Executive
The Large Corporation Executive is a male or female between the ages of 45 and 60 who works in a large corporation. They require a secure and customizable platform to share reports with various stakeholders and departments within their organization. Their main goal is to ensure the security and confidentiality of reports while also being able to customize access permissions to individual reports. However, they face a pain point in their difficulty in finding a platform that is both customizable and user-friendly. Additionally, they desire the ability to track access to reports and have a centralized platform to manage all reports within the organization.
Here are ten user stories that describe how the personas would interact with the secure file sharing application:
As an IT Director, I want to be able to set access controls so that only authorized personnel can view or edit certain files.
As a Security Analyst, I want to be able to monitor user activity to identify potential security breaches or policy violations.
As an Executive Assistant, I want to be able to share files with executives in a secure and efficient manner.
As an IT Director, I want to be able to integrate the secure file sharing application with our existing enterprise software.
As a Security Analyst, I want to be able to perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
As an Executive Assistant, I want to be able to track file sharing activity and see who has accessed a particular file.
As an IT Director, I want to be able to manage user accounts and access controls from a centralized dashboard.
As a Security Analyst, I want to be able to receive alerts and notifications when suspicious activity is detected.
As an Executive Assistant, I want to be able to quickly search for and find the files I need to share.
As an IT Director, I want to be able to generate usage reports and analytics to track file sharing activity and measure user adoption.
To address the problem, I first started by conducting a whiteboarding session with the development team to map out the key features and functionality that the Secure Share app would need. Based on this session, I created a set of wireframes that captured the user flow and basic layout of the app.
Next, I worked with the development team to create a landing page for the app. The landing page included key messaging and visual design elements that would resonate with our target audience, as well as a call-to-action that encouraged users to sign up for early access to the app.
Throughout the design process, I focused on creating a simple and intuitive user experience that would make it easy for users to securely share files and communicate with each other. I used a clean and modern visual design that conveyed a sense of trust and reliability, while also highlighting the app's key benefits.
The landing page that I designed helped generate a significant amount of interest in the Secure Share app. We were able to collect a large number of email addresses from users who wanted to be notified when the app was released, which gave us valuable insight into the market demand for this type of product.
Additionally, we received positive feedback from users who found the landing page to be informative and easy to navigate. The clean and modern visual design helped to establish trust and credibility with potential users, which was essential for a product in the cybersecurity industry.
Overall, the design work that I did helped set the foundation for a successful product launch and laid the groundwork for future iterations of the app.
